UALR Athletic Director Chasse Conque didn’t look far for his next men’s basketball coach.
UALR will announce that associate head coach Wes Flanigan has been promoted to head coach during an 11 a.m. news conference Thursday at the Jack Stephens Center, sources confirmed to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette on Wednesday.
UALR announced the news conference Wednesday afternoon but did not reveal who would be taking over for Chris Beard, who led the Trojans to one of their best seasons before he resigned Monday to become head coach at UNLV.
But two sources with knowledge of the decision confirmed Wednesday that it will be Flanigan, a Little Rock Parkview graduate who served this past season as associate head coach in the Trojans’ 30-5 season that ended with a second-round NCAA Tournament loss to Iowa State.
