OXFORD, Miss. – Every centimeter matters. That rang true for Aaliyah Mathis Saturday as she set a new school record in the discus throw by a single centimeter at the Ole Miss Classic in Oxford.
Mathis' threw 47.84m (which translates to approximately 156-feet, 11-inches) to place seventh and set a new school record. Her record throw passed the old school record set by current teammate Alison Stephens by a single centimeter after Stephens set the mark with a throw of 47.83m at last year's Sun Belt Championships.
That record mark came after Mathis recorded a new personal best and the seventh-best shot put throw in school history earlier in the day, throwing 42-11.
