Villarreal ready to take on nation's elite in New York

NEW YORK — Roughly a month removed from his high school graduation, Carlos Villarreal hasn’t had much of a chance to kick back and relax.

Yet the future Arizona Wildcat isn’t complaining.

Villarreal, Rio Rico’s revered state championship runner who is signed with the UA, will once again be taking on some of the country’s top athletes this weekend, just like he did two weeks ago in Eugene, Oregon, and just as he will next weekend in Seattle.

Saturday’s race for Villarreal, the Boys Dream Mile, is surely a special one. From the beginning of the season, it was a goal of the season to qualify for the event, which is part of the Adidas Grand Prix, held at Randall’s Island in New York City.
