UA's Neal hopes defensive switch pays off

If DaVonte’ Neal could have a redo coming out of Scottsdale Chaparral High, he’d probably take it.

A dynamic star, Neal was the two-time Gatorade Player of the Year in Arizona. He ran circles around defenders as a receiver and made quarterbacks' lives miserable as a cornerback.

But like every high school phenom, Neal had to pick a position when colleges came calling. He eventually decided to stick with receiver and committed to Notre Dame.

The rest is well known by now: Neal played a year for the Fighting Irish, transferred to Arizona, sat out 2013 and had an underwhelming season a year ago as a receiver.
