Arizona withdrew proposed contract changes for basketball coach Sean Miller while the Arizona Board of Regents approved Thursday a raise, extension and accelerated retention plan for football coach Rich Rodriguez.
UA initially proposed a one-year contract extension with extra $100,000 in salary for Miller in 2019-2020, along with faster vesting in the same booster-funded retention plan that was set up for Rodriguez and UA athletic director Greg Byrne.
But Byrne said a “technical issue” prompted UA to withdraw its proposals for Miller before Thursday’s Regents meeting. Byrne said he still expected Miller would receive a one-year extension, while it is possible language may be changed involving the complex retention plan funded by a UA booster via stock shares.
