Sonoran Hot Reads: Jeff Casteel hired as Nevada’s defensive coordinator

After not coaching anywhere in 2016, former Arizona Wildcats defensive coordinator Jeff Casteel has found himself a new job. Jay Norvell, who took over as the Nevada Wolf Pack’s new head coach after leaving ASU, announced Casteel as his new defensive coordinator in Reno. Casteel was the defensive coordinator at Arizona for four years before being let go by Rich Rodriguez last offseason

- It’s kind of strange timing considering Arizona hired Scott Boone as its new linebackers coach on Monday. Boone was Nevada’s DC last year, so the two schools essentially just traded linebackers coaches

- Christian McCaffrey and Leonard Fournette are doing the smart thing and skipping their bowl games

- After last week’s wins, the Wildcats moved up one spot to 18th in both major polls

- Arizona has really been missing Parker Jackson-Cartwright, but it’s possible that Tuesday’s game is the last one he misses
