After Carlos Villarreal broke the state record in the 1,600-meter run earlier this month it was hard to imagine him putting together a more impressive performance any time soon.
Not so fast.
The Arizona Wildcats signee and recent Rio Rico graduate posted a time of 4 minutes 5.25 seconds to win the Nike Prefontaine Classic’s Elite High School Boys Mile run on Friday night in Eugene, Oregon.

Villarreal saved his best for last: He rallied from nearly 10 meters back in the final lap to take the win.
