A partnership between the Pac-12 and Quidel Corporation for daily testing of athletes for coronavirus in close contact sports could allow for some athletic competition in the conference before next year.
"I'm hopeful today's news and what's coming from the NCAA will provide a pathway to start before Jan. 1," possibly in men's and women's basketball, Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott said Thursday, in announcing the affiliation with Quidel for rapid results testing.
The tests can yield results in 15 minutes.
The NCAA men's and women's basketball oversight committee is proposing a Nov. 25 competition start date for the 2020-21 season that must be approved by the Division I Council.
