A stellar performance at the Wooden Legacy led to Nico Mannion winning that tournament’s MVP award on Sunday night, and it also garnered him his first honor from the Pac-12 Conference.
Mannion was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week on Monday, marking the third time in four weeks the award has gone to a member of the Arizona Wildcats. Zeke Nnaji won it the first two weeks of the season.
Mannion averaged 16.3 points and 7.3 assists while shooting 51 percent in Arizona’s three wins at the Wooden Legacy. He had the game-winning shot in the opening-round victory over Pepperdine during a 16-point, 11-assist effort, scored a career-high 24 in the semifinal win over Penn and had 9 points and 7 assists against Wake Forest to help the Wildcats win their first holiday tournament since 2014.
