TUCSON – In football terms, Mike is not a name; it’s a position.
The Wildcats have shuffled through so many middle linebackers this season, though, it’s a wonder none of them have been named Mike.
It started with a Scooby, then went to a Haden and a Tre, then back to Scooby with a switch to a Sir Thomas.
Now, the Wildcats are at Jake. That’s Jake Matthews, an Ironwood Ridge product and Arizona’s fifth different starter at the “Mike” spot in the last five games.
The revolving door started when Scooby Wright tore his meniscus in the second quarter of UA’s season opening win over UTSA.
