The Wildcats face off against the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors in football this weekend at Arizona Stadium, but that won’t be the only competing done, as both squads will face off, performing their Maori language-based HAKA.
When Arizona performed their Haka on national television on ESPN’s GameDay. ABC soaked it up and New Zealand fans were angered. ABC mistakenly called it the “Black Haka” and that is where the controversy began because the Black Haka is specific to a tribe in New Zealand and has to be performed exactly like it’s been done for eternity.
This time around, the team took this to heart and are making sure that they create a Haka with words specific to the Wildcats team, much like the BYU Cougars perform.
