Six times in the last nine years, UA associate athletic director Becky Bell has gotten an email or a phone call telling her that, once again, an Arizona Wildcat is the Pac-12’s Woman of the Year.
“Each time it happens, I get goose bumps,” Bell said Wednesday. “Each time it happens, I’m speechless.”
This isn’t like the Sand Volleyball Player of the Week or an announcement for the all-conference soccer team. The Pac-12 has 15 women’s sports. It has roughly 3,000 female athletes. Stanford nominates a Woman of the Year every May. So do USC and UCLA.
