When The Olympics head to Tokyo in 2020, a couple of sports will be seen on that stage for the first time since 2008, and those will be softball and baseball.
The two sports were combined as one sport in a package of five (karate, skateboarding, surfing and sports climbing the others) that were proposed and approved by the IOC on Wednesday. There is no guarantee that these sports will be included on the Olympic slate beyond 2020 though.
Arizona has a strong tie to the sport of softball, with head coach Mike Candrea serving as the Team USA head coach in both the 2004 Athens games and the 2008 Beijing games, and plenty of Arizona players playing for Team USA through the years.
