Arizona’s experience in the Pac-12 Tournament can be split up into three distinct eras.
The first one spanned from 1987 to 1990, when the Wildcats — an emerging power under coach Lute Olson — dominated what was then the Pac-10 Tournament. Arizona won three titles in three years (1988-90) before conference coaches voted to eliminate the tournament altogether.
The Pac-10 Tournament returned in 2002. Arizona won the title again that season, then slipped into a funk. The third era arrived in 2009, when Sean Miller took over as coach. The Wildcats made the championship game three times in five years.
