TUCSON – Six years ago, Greg Byrne bumped into Rich Rodriguez while in New York for the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame dinner. A chance meeting in a hotel lobby set the stage for the two working together in Tucson.
In December, the same event triggered another career change, this time for Byrne. It was there he was contacted by officials from the office of Alabama’s president to let him know they had interest in him filling an athletic director’s position that would soon be vacant.
What was reported by the Arizona Daily Star Sunday was confirmed by the Arizona Wildcats Monday: Byrne would be leaving Tucson for the Crimson Tide.
