Arizona Wildcats quarterback Khalil Tate will not play against UCLA on Saturday to rest his injured ankle, Arizona coach Kevin Sumlin announced.
Sophomore Rhett Rodriguez, who played the bulk of the snaps last week at Utah, will make his first career start.
Sumlin met with Tate on Monday, and they agreed it was in Tate’s best interest to sit for at least one week. Tate first hurt his left ankle on Sept. 8 against Houston. He hasn’t been 100 percent since, and Tate had to leave Friday’s game at Utah after the second offensive series.
Tate has started the past 15 games for the Wildcats.
