The spread of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, has had a rippling impact across the world. Wildcat guard Nico Mannion has a deeply personal connection to one of the focal points of the global pandemic.
The Arizona freshman and Phoenix Pinnacle alum was born in Siena, Italy, and spent most of his childhood there. He represents Italy in international competition. His father, Pace, is a former NBA player who also played for various teams in Italy. His mother, Gaia Bianchi, was raised in Rome and was a volleyball player for Italy’s national team.
Nico Mannion tweeted out a message Wednesday, urging people to pay attention to the surge of coronavirus cases in Italy, a country that is currently on a nationwide lockdown.
