It was a sight for sore eyes for longtime Arizona Wildcats volleyball coach Dave Rubio on Friday night.
The Wildcats, who entered Friday’s match on a four-match losing streak, dominated the 15th-ranked USC Trojans, earning a straight-sets sweep (25-23, 25-17, 26-24).
In doing so, the Wildcats gave the visiting Trojans their first taste of defeat in conference play, snapping the visiting team’s five-match win streak.
The 26th-year Wildcats coach praised his team’s effort against a mighty USC squad, earning more kills (41-35), blocks (11-6), digs (45-42) and hits (.262-.140) than the Trojans.
