The life of a college athletics coach is about balancing priorities, time and, most importantly, the roster.
Gone are the luxurious days of yore, when you could collect a freshman for four years — or maybe five — and nurture their talent. Now the spinning wheel collects the best of them, including Arizona volleyball coach Dave Rubio, whose team kicks off the season on Aug. 28 at the SMU Invite.
“The transfer market is affecting people,” Rubio said. “For us, it’s been a good effect – we bring in a kid from West Virginia, Anna Panagiotakopoulos, a senior, and she’ll play a significant role and a kid from James Madison whose mother was a hall-of-famer, Mackenzie Kleespies.
