TEMPE — One way or another, playing No. 17 LSU was guaranteed to be a measuring stick for Arizona soccer to gauge their progress under their new head coach.
A lopsided loss shows they still have a long way to go.
Stunted by sloppiness in their defensive third, the Wildcats lost 2-0 to the 17th-ranked Tigers on Thursday at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium.
Arizona drops to 1-2 on the season. Both losses were shutouts.
“We came up short,” Becca Moros said.
LSU scored both goals early in the first half. In the 11th minute, Maddie Moreau collected a pass near the corner of the box and exploited a passive Arizona defense by taking a few uncontested dribbles before slicing a left-footed shot into the upper corner.
