Arizona Wildcats junior right-hander Michael Flynn has signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates, officially forgoing his final year of eligibility, it was announced Monday.
The Pirates selected Flynn in the sixth round of the MLB Draft last week. He signed for $250,000, according to MLB Pipeline’s Jim Callis. That is slightly below slot value, which was $275,600, per MLB.com.
Flynn was Arizona’s No. 2 starter this past season. He posted a 4.89 ERA in 73.2 innings, with 72 strikeouts to 29 walks.
The Wildcats are also expected to lose ace Cody Deason, a junior who was selected by the Astros in the fourth round, so they will have plenty of questions to answer on the mound next season.
