Defensive coordinator Keith Patterson said there are a "plethora" of reasons, too time consuming to list, responsible for the wild pendulum swing of Arizona State allowing minus-1 yard rushing against UCLA to giving up 315 a week later against Colorado.
"There's nothing that we were not disappointed in," from preparation to coaching to performance in a 40-16 loss to the Buffs, Patterson said.
That includes his linebacker position group despite what Patterson said "thank goodness" was the best game of the season from Laiu Moeakiola at the Spur position.
The continued absence of junior Christian Sam, out since a foot injury suffered in the first quarter of the season, is taking a toll on a group considered a strength coming into the season with three returning starters.
