Mickey Mitchell sank a free throw Saturday, putting Arizona State up 11 on UCLA with 35.9 seconds left. The game was over.
Yet ASU coach Bobby Hurley called time.
A full timeout.
OK. Fine. Hurley looked a little irritated. Maybe he wanted to tell the Sun Devils to stop fouling. Or to take care of the basketball. Makes sense.
But 20 seconds later, after UCLA had surrendered and was content to let ASU run out the clock to end an 88-79 win, Hurley called time with 13.6 seconds left, sending three non-scholarship players into the game.
