Pat Tillman died 16 years ago Wednesday in a friendly-fire incident in Afghanistan.
The former Arizona Cardinals and Arizona State football player had enlisted in the military in 2002 in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks.
The Cardinals selected Tillman, a linebacker out of ASU, with the No. 226 overall pick in the NFL draft in 1998.
Tillman was a steal for Arizona in the seventh round.
He moved to safety for the Cardinals and started 10 games his rookie season. Tillman ended up playing four seasons for Arizona, where he became a leader on the team.
