It was a day that dawned as arguably the greatest in Arizona State volleyball history, and set as one of the worst.
On Oct. 9, 2015, ASU was undefeated through 15 matches and ranked a program-high No. 5 nationally when it faced No. 6 Washington in Seattle. The first set went badly for the Sun Devils, a 25-6 loss, but they regrouped to lead late in the second.
Then everything changed.
Five days after becoming ASU's career kills leader and being chosen national Player of the Week, outside hitter Macey Gardner suffered a torn ACL and other damage in her left knee on what would be the final point of her All-America volleyball career.
