When Bob Bowman agreed to listen to a pitch from Arizona State Vice President for Athletics Ray Anderson, he didn't expect a week later to be introduced as ASU's new swim coach.
Ten minutes into their meeting, Bowman – the most famous swim coach in America because of his work with the most decorated Olympian ever, Michael Phelps – realized "this is completely different. For someone to say we want to be elite in swimming at a program that was essentially left for dead a few years ago is beyond belief. Then once they started telling me the plan for what's going to happen and the support in place, it was a no-brainer really.
