The Arizona State men's golf team is one shot back of Northwestern and tied for second at the Marquette Intercollegiate after the first round Sunday, as the three-day tournament is taking place at 2017 U.S. Open site Erin Hills Golf Course (par-72/7,869 yards).
Junior Alex del Rey is third overall after shooting a 3-under 69 as he had four birdies on his back nine, including two in the final three holes. He is two shots behind leader Gonzalo Leal of Iowa.
Freshman Davis Evans had a solid first round in his collegiate debut shooting par as he is tied for 11th.
