LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The No. 15 Arizona State beach volleyball (9-12, 1-3) opened a four-match California road trip with a 0-5 loss to top ranked USC (22-0) Friday night.
The Sand Devils' senior duo of Bianca Arellano and Whitney Follette nearly played spoiler in the outing, taking the Trojan's Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes to three sets. Arellano and Follette garnered an early advantage in the match winning set one 21-17 over the Trojan's top pair who entered the match with a prolific 100-dual win streak to their credit. After Claes and Hughes earned a 21-12 set win, Arellano and Follette could not withstand a late burst on part of the Trojans falling in a highly contested set three 15-13, as Claes and Hughes extended their win streak to 101.
