AUSTIN, Texas - No. 31 Arizona State's season came to an end Saturday afternoon in the second round of the NCAA Women's Tennis Championship with a 4-0 loss to the hosting No. 2 Longhorns. The final match of ASU's 33rd-consecutive postseason appearance featured senior Sammi Hampton closing out her collegiate career with one final doubles victory.
"It was certainly a tough match obviously and I give a lot of credit to Texas, they're ranked number two in the country for a reason," head coach Sheila McInerney said. "We played quite well in the doubles and had a chance to win it, and in singles Texas came out and took control fairly early.
