TEMPE, Ariz. - At every Sun Devils football practice, a highly trained staff of experts is present to study the players intently. They analyze hits, they gather reams of data on players' reactions to those hits and they log that data for future use.
We're not talking about Head Coach Todd Graham and his staff of assistants. We're talking about scientists from The Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen), a Valley based non-profit focused on developing earlier diagnoses and smarter treatments for a variety of diseases.
TGen and sports equipment manufacturer Riddell announced in September that they had begun the third year of a study in conjunction with Arizona State University to advance concussion detection and treatment with the Sun Devil Football program.
