EUGENE, Ore. – Day one of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships saw graduate senior Garrett Starkey earn his first-ever All-American honor in the men's pole vault in front of thousands of fans at Tracktown USA on the campus of the University of Oregon.
Starkey finished 16th in his first-ever NCAA Championship appearance to cap off his first season wearing the Maroon & Gold.
The Chandler-native cleared the first bar at 5.15m (16-10.75) on his first attempt before moving to 5.30m (17-4.50). He nearly cleared the bar on his first attempt again, but just clipped the bar on his way down.
