PHOENIX – Sun Devil Baseball's Spencer Torkelson was selected with the No. 1 overall selection of the 2020 MLB Draft by the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday.
Torkelson becomes the fourth Arizona State baseball player to go No. 1 overall in program history, easily an NCAA-high – two more than any other program. He joins Rick Monday (1965), Floyd Bannister (1976) and Bob Horner (1978) to earn the prestigious designation out of ASU.
He is the 22nd first round selection for the Sun Devils in program history (June draft only, no supplemental rounds) – good for the second-highest tally in NCAA history (Stanford's 23).
