Kevin Mawae played 16 seasons in the NFL, made the Pro Bowl eight times, was named All-Pro three times and likely will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame within the next few years.
Yet none of that meant anything to Arizona State players when Mawae joined coach Herm Edwards' staff this spring. To them, Mawae (pronounced ma-WHY) was as foreign to them as Mumbai.
So Mawae found common ground: the Madden NFL video game.
“Do you play Madden?” Mawae asked one player recently.
“Yes, sir.”
