CATHEDRAL CITY – The Arizona State softball team run-ruled and shutout Auburn, 13-0, to open play in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic on Thursday afternoon. The win against the Tigers extends ASU's winning streak to six consecutive games.
The first inning saw no offensive production for either dugout as a swinging strikeout from starting pitcher Madison Preston ended the Auburn at-bat with two runners left on base. ASU fielded a ground out and pop-up as Preston forced another batter to strikeout swinging in the top of the second.
ASU landed on the board in statement style in the second with a homerun from Denae Chatman that earned two RBI as Alli Tatnall, who walked earlier in the inning, was also brought home.
