Playing with just six scholarship players in its basketball season opener Friday night, Arizona State pulled away from Idaho State over the final six minutes of the first half on the way to a 94-74 victory.
De’Quon Lake, a 6-9 forward junior college transfer making his ASU debut, joined with senior guards Tra Holder and Shannon Evans to lead the way at Wells Fargo Arena. Coach Bobby Hurley is starting his third season with the Sun Devils.
Evans finished with 25 points and Lake 24, tied for sixth and eighth most in an ASU opener since 1987.
