When Romello White was 15, he was playing on an under-17 travel basketball team. It was a compliment that he was chosen to play with the older kids, but it didn't seem to benefit him because he wasn't getting playing time. He was thinking about switching teams.
Then one game he got in for the closing minutes and managed 12 points. The coach of the opposing team was former NBA veteran Jerry Stackhouse, who told White afterward he liked his skills and thought he had potential.
A week later White was playing for Stackhouse's team, thus beginning a relationship that still exists with Stackhouse serving as White's mentor.
