Kai Murphy, son of former Arizona State baseball coach Pat Murphy, is transferring to ASU.
Murphy is a two-way player who could contribute as ASU as a left-handed pitcher and position player.
After his career at Mesa Red Mountain High School, Murphy signed with Oregon State, where he was a freshman in 2019-20. He made four relief pitching appearances for the Beavers in a season shortened by the coronavirus pandemic and gets that year of eligibility back due to an NCAA exemption for spring sport athletes whose season was cut short.
If he receives a transfer waiver, Murphy, who was sick in fall 2019 with mononucleosis, will be eligible to play in 2021.
