Among the positives in Arizona State's opening win over New Mexico State: The Sun Devils found their vertical passing game. It had been missing for some time.
In 12 games last season, ASU didn't connect on a single 50-yard touchdown pass. The Sun Devils completed only three over 30. Yet in Thursday's win, they completed two: a 53-yarder to junior Jalen Harvey, the result of a busted coverage.
And a 60-yarder to John Humphrey, the best play of the night and perhaps the best throw of junior quarterback Manny Wilkins' career.
"That was pretty, huh?" coach Todd Graham said.
