SALT LAKE CITY – The night's soundtrack was the official's whistle, and this wasn't good for Arizona State, a team playing its third road contest to open the Pac-12 season, one still looking for its first conference win.
But with 22 seconds left and the score tied, senior guard Shannon Evans dished to Mickey Mitchell, who dribbled and leaped into Utah senior David Collette in the lane, drawing contact.
Whistle.
At that point, ASU had been called for a season-high 31 fouls, second most of any Pac-12 team this season. Coach Bobby Hurley had his entire frontcourt, three players in all, sitting beside him, fouled out of the contest.
