No. 16 Arizona State baseball had its chances to beat No. 1 UCLA on Friday night, putting leadoff runners on base in the final three innings.
But ASU managed just one run out of those opportunities and lost 3-2 in the series opener before 3,878 at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.
“We played well and you drop another hit in there, maybe my face is a little different right now,” ASU coach Tracy Smith said. “Sometimes it’s not what you’re doing, it’s just somebody is doing it a little bit better.
