Eleven years after being dropped as a varsity program then saved by boosters, Arizona State wrestling stunned four-time defending NCAA champion Penn State in a dual meet Friday night.
No. 10 ASU won 19-18 before a school wrestling record 8,522 at Desert Financial Arena, ending No. 1 Penn State's 60-match dual win streak lasting almost five years.
The Sun Devils (5-0) avenged a 41-3 loss at Penn State last year, improving to 4-4-1 all-time vs. Penn State (1-1).
"I appreciate them putting themselves on the line to come and wrestle us here," ASU coach Zeke Jones said.
