Kai Murphy hit a solo home run leading off the fifth and speedy Joe Lampe scored later in the inning for a 2-1 win over Sacramento State at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.
The Sun Devils (1-1) carried a 2-0 lead into the ninth inning Friday but lost 4-2 off a Sac State grand slam.
“We’re still not clicking offensively and left some runs on the board,” ASU coach Tracy Smith said. “The difference was our mindset at the end. We told them don’t fear the result.
