Arizona State football coach Herman Edwards has been thrust into the center of a Twitter frenzy after saying he would cut players who don’t live up to his standards.
The quick-trigger negative reactions have ranged from “ASU never should have hired him” and “Herm doesn’t know how to adjust to college football” to a GIF of Will Ferrell cackling maniacally and another of a dumpster fire.
But the oppositional perspective makes no sense.
Former college football players say turnover from one coach to the next is routine and that Edwards’ candor is refreshing. Also, Edwards’ position actually takes advantage of an NCAA rule that should bolster recruiting.
