Moore: All eyes are on ASU football, but why? Program is far from goals

Finally, it’s college football season, but I’ve got a question: Why are we watching Arizona State so closely?

Seriously. They’re not worth the attention, right?

They’ve got an impressive new weight room and football facility. But that’s about recruiting, teaching and development. We won’t see it pay off for years.

Everyone is watching to see if the defense improves under new coordinator Phil Bennett, but why? It can’t get any worse than it has been, especially the secondary.

And ASU President Michael Crow and Vice President for Athletics Ray Anderson made it clear this month that Todd Graham is coaching for his job and that they want to compete with the best football programs in the nation.
