No. 20 ASU hockey drops opener to Mercyhurst Jeff Metcalfe, azcentral sports
Mercyhurst hockey scored twice in the final 2:30 Saturday night to stun No. 20 Arizona State 3-2 in the season opener for both at Oceanside Ice Arena.
ASU overcame a slow first period to dominate most of the second and third, taking the lead with 8:46 remaining on a goal by defender Brinson Pasichnuk when the Sun Devils maintained control after a power play ended.
Mercyhurst capitalized on a defensive mistake by Jarrod Gourley that left the puck free near the end of a power play close to the ASU net.
