Macha's Heroic Effort Not Enough as ASU Falls to LSU in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La. – The No. 23/21 Arizona State University softball team’s season came to a dramatic close, as Bianca Bell’s walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth lifted the fifth-seeded LSU Tigers to a 4-3 victory in the winner-take-all finale of the Baton Rouge Regional.

The hit plated LSU’s Sydney Bourg and brought an end to an absolutely heroic effort by ASU true freshman pitcher Breanna Macha, who pitched 28 of ASU’s possible 30 innings on the weekend and held the incredibly potent Tigers (48-12) to just six earned runs in three games.

Macha had 124 pitches in the finale, scattering 13 LSU hits in the contest but holding them to just three earned runs in the game.
