Loud and local: Johnny Walker leading Arizona State hockey to new heights

When asked to describe Arizona State forward Johnny Walker in one word, Sun Devils captain Brinson Pasichnuk took a few moments before delivering a confident response.

“Idiot,” Pasichnuk said, laughing. “He’s everywhere. Always joking around and then all of a sudden he’s angry. It’s kind of funny, you know? He’s a character.”

It’s a well-meaning compliment for a colorful player who has arguably been the most valuable performer for ASU this season. Walker’s Sun Devils enter their bye week with a 10-6-0 record and a No. 18 national ranking in the latest USCHO.com poll.

Walker, a 22-year-old Phoenix native, is in his second season at Arizona State and leads all Division I scorers with 12 goals and is tied for fourth in points with 18.
