Just in case Ethan Long hadn’t already wrapped up a second consecutive Pac-12 Player of the Week award going into Sunday, the Arizona State freshman made sure with a history-making performance.
Long became the first player in ASU’s exalted baseball history to hit eight home runs over a seven-game span in the first inning against Rhode Island at Phoenix Municipal Stadium. Then he cleared the bases with a two-out double in the sixth and drove in another run with a single in the seventh, helping the Sun Devils erase a four-run deficit for a 14-13 win.
In a series sweep, Long hit four home runs and went 8-of-13 with 11 RBI, six of those in game 3.
