The Arizona Board of Regents has unanimously approved a five-year contract that makes Herm Edwards the new football coach for Arizona State University.
Edwards will make $2 million a year in guaranteed salary with another $3.7 million in potential incentives if the team performs well on the football field and in the classroom.
The guaranteed salary is $1.2 million less than the annual salary for Todd Graham, who was fired Nov. 26 after coaching the Sun Devils for six seasons.
The hire is controversial, with some ASU fans questioning Edwards' college-coaching credentials and why more prospects weren't considered.
