Arizona State head football coach Herm Edwards was obviously impressed by the work defensive coordinator Danny Gonzales did with the young players because Gonzales was promoted to assistant head coach Friday.
Gonzales, who joined the staff prior to the 2018 season after serving in the same capacity at San Diego State, will only be adding a title as he remains the team's defensive coordinator.
Despite starting as many as six freshmen at times, the Sun Devil defense guided by Gonzales allowed its fewest points (332) since the 2012 season.
